Express Studio

What is the Express Studio?

The Express Studio is a space for the Mount community to create high quality videos with the touch of a few buttons. With just a short training, the Express Studio is available for users at any technical comfort level. Studios are available at both the Emmitsburg and Frederick locations and the entire Mount community is encouraged to take advantage of this innovative resource.

What options are available in the Express Studio?

The Express Studio is outfitted with three production setups: greenscreen, podium, and lightboard*. Lights and microphones are preset, and users can select from a short menu of options to customize the experience. Training on how to customize these options is required prior to use of the Express Studio.

  • Green Screen: Record with a digital background of your choosing.
  • Podium: Record with a white, black, or gray vinyl backdrop.
  • Lightboard: Record while writing on a glass board, similar to a classroom whiteboard.

*Lightboard only available at Emmitsburg location.

Who can use the Express Studio?

  • Instructors - Instructors can use the Express Studio to create materials for their classes such as lectures, demonstrations, interviews, or worked examples. Other examples may include recording for a conference presentation, presenting research, or supporting a university-sponsored event.
  • Administrators and Staff - Administrators and staff can use the Express Studio to create video that would enhance their work on campus.
  • Students - Students are able to to use the Express Studio to complete coursework or course projects. Other student uses may include use of video to promote clubs on campus or to support a university-sponsored event.

Note: Additional permissions may be required for uses intended for external audiences.

Register for the Express Studio start up training at the Mount Employee Professional Development page by selecting the button below. Your first visit to the Express Studio will be to complete the initial training. Then you can begin recording videos during subsequent visits.

Register for a Training

  • Faculty and Administrators - Faculty and administrators are encouraged to enroll in this professional development listing and then schedule their initial training by following directions from within the Canvas course.
  • Students - The studio will be available for students use at specific scheduled hours throughout the week.

Express Studio Use General Guidelines and Policies

Depending on the use of your recorded content, additional permissions may be required before sharing the completed video. Please reference the following policies in order to determine whether permission is required before proceeding:

Recordings for internal audiences

  • If recording is a part of a course, faculty do not need approval to use the studio.
  • If recording is a part of a course, students need faculty endorsement to use the studio and faculty supervision of the recording in the studio.
  • If the recording is a part of a university sponsored event, faculty/staff do not need approval to use the studio.
  • If the recording is a part of a university sponsored event, students need faculty sponsor approval prior to using the studio.

Recordings for external audiences

  • If the recording is a part of faculty scholarship such as recording for a conference presentation, faculty do not need approval to use the studio.
  • If the recording is for external purposes such as for marketing a university sanctioned center, the faculty or other employee should seek the approval of their dean or appropriate VP before using the studio.
  • If the recording is a part of an external, work-for-hire agreement, faculty need VP approval before using the studio.
