ROTC Coordinator

Essential Position Functions

1. Liaison between McDaniel (MC) & MSMU Administration and faculty (20%)

  • Assist the Professor of Military Science with the planning and programming for major on-campus events such as Homecoming, Annual Formal, Labs and classes.
  • Develop, plan and coordinate key programs and events designed specifically for the Cadets which will develop awareness and encourage active participation in campus events; serving as liaison between student leaders, faculty and the United States.
  • Provide prospective students with information on the U.S. Army ROTC program, to include enrollment requirements, course descriptions, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Manage the Military Science Department operating budget and supply requirements.
  • Be responsible for all United States Army and MSMU equipment and supplies; ensure proper paperwork is maintained for accountability and serviceability.
  • Attend all official meetings of the university as the Military Science Department Head.

2. Cadet Administrative

  • Provide daily administrative interface between McDaniel College Army ROTC and the MSMU campus departments as necessary, mainly admissions, financial aid and student's affairs.
  • Attend meetings, ceremonies and special functions at both McDaniel College and Mount St Mary's University.
  • Attend one staff meeting every Monday at 10:00 a.m at McDaniel College during the school year.
  • Prepare legal and administrative documentation for Cadets contracting physical exams, medical waivers, security clearances, and accession packets.
  • Assist with disenrollment/ enrollment and processing waivers.

3. Recruiting

  • Assist the Recruiting Officer with all on-campus recruiting actions.
  • Coordinate on-campus advertising and information displays.
  • Plan and schedule ROTC participation in Accepted Student day, Freshman Orientation Weekends, and other special events on campus.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of recruiting materials, draft recruiting flyers and other promotional information, and distribute on campus.
  • Plan, manage, market and coordinate the Cadet / Student Mentoring program.
  • Assist the Professor of Military Science to interview and assess prospective students to become cadets and students at MSMU.
  • Assist to select awardees of full tuition and fees Army Scholarships to incoming freshmen, and campus-based students.
  • Provide prospective students with information on the U.S. Army ROTC program, to include enrollment requirements, course descriptions, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Ability to discuss Army ROTC programs via telephone or through email.

4. Office Management

  • Serve as primary editor for Army ROTC pages of the Mount St. Mary's University website.
  • Enhancing and developing content as well as strategies to increase cadet participation in campus activities.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate key programs and events specifically designed for the cadets which will develop awareness and encourage active participation in campus events; serving as liaison between student leaders, faculty, and the United States Army.
  • Work with Director of Student Affairs on creating a minor in Military Science.
  • Coordinate maintenance of facilities and equipment as required.
  • Manage office schedule and perform all routine clerical duties.

Marginal Functions

Military Instruction

  • Assist Cadre with Military instruction. Field studies of local Civil War Battlefields, like Gettysburg and Antietam.
  • Perform additional duties as an assistant instructor of the Military History Course to instruct cadets.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

  • Work with colleagues in the Office of Admissions in carrying out appropriate programs, mailings, events and tasks for incoming students.
  • Serve on campus committees when requested by the appropriate university official.
  • Comfortable to utilize the computer, fax, and copier on a daily basis to accomplish daily office tasks.
  • Ability to attend Cadet Command training at Fort Monroe, VA for a week at a time.

Special Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Cadet Command Regulations, forms and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Army regulation 25-50 and able to prepare official correspondence and documents in accordance with that document.
  • Basic knowledge of the Army supply system and property accountability requirements.
  • Understanding of Army protocol and rank structure.
  • Basic computer knowledge: MS word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and Perform Pro Filler.
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations for the College Safety Policy which apply to the work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Four to five years of experience of related experience.
  • Honorable Retired Military Officer / Senior Non Commissioned Officer with related experiences preferred.
  • Strong organizational, human relations and communications skills.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite- MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Calendar Creator.
  • Ability to work with alumni, students, faculty, administrators and campus leaders.
  • Ability to manage several projects or assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to work autonomously and identify implied tasks and be able to accomplish them.

Position Location

Memorial Gym at Mount St Mary's University.

Equipment Used

Telephone, copier, fax machine, IBM computer and adding machine.

Physical Requirements

Office environment.


Ability to work with minimum supervision.


Minimum pay rate: $16.50/hour
