Veteran Work Study Program-Frederick Campus

Applicant Eligibility

This VA-funded work-study position is available only to students who are receiving benefits under one of the following programs:

  • Title 38, U.S.C., Chapter 30: The Montgomery GI Bill
  • Title 38, U.S.C., Chapter 31: Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Title 38, U.S.C., Chapter 32: The Post-Vietnam Era Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program
  • Title 38, U.S.C., Chapter 33: The Post-9/11 GI Bill / Fry Scholarship
  • Title 38, U.S.C., Chapter 35: Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program
  • Title 10, U.S.C., Chapter 1606: The Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve

The student must be also enrolled in and pursuing an approved college degree, vocational or professional program of education at a rate of 3/4 time or greater.

*NOTE*: Neither federal employees nor students receiving VA education benefits, while participating in an internship program at a VA facility, are eligible to participate in the Work-Study Allowance Program simultaneously at a VA facility.

Job Description

This job is located at the Frederick Campus of Mount St. Mary’s University, under direct supervision of the program advisor for the Warriors to Workforce (W2W) program. 

VA approved work-study students provide support to the veterans certifying official, veterans counselor, veteran students and/or their dependents by assisting with VA-related duties, including but not limited to:

  • Serve as primary point of contact at the Student Veterans Center, answering phone calls, directing students on campus and over the phone, sending and receiving emails and answering questions to walk-in students
  • Maintain and organize the Student Veterans Center
  • Assist student veterans with general inquiries about veterans’ benefits they can receive on and off campus, veteran's activities, FAFSA, and directing veteran students to other student support services
  • Assist and participate in outreach within the community and with on-campus efforts and events
  • Maintain positive relationships with student support service departments, in order to facilitate services to student veterans
  • Assist with veteran website development
  • Assist W2W program advisor in monitoring academic progress of W2W students
  • Communicate with W2W students about upcoming dates/deadlines
  • Assist with the development and distribution of accurate and current Veterans Affairs Office publications to relevant constituencies (brochures, flyers, posters and web content)
  • Maintain most current information and updates by attending required trainings to support the on-site VA certifying official, counselor and veteran students
  • Conduct other clerical/office duties as required

Salary, Hours, Location

Maryland Minimum Wage: $10.10 per hour. Eight (8) hours per week.
